The Secrets to Student Success

Teach to Learn: Teaching "it" improves your understanding of "it"

A person learns better if they have the expectation that they will have to teach it to someone else afterwards.  When you try to teach a concept, you learn what you don't undersand, and have a chance to go back and figure it out before you need it on a test or on the job.

Summary of Teach to Learn Method:
1.) Pretend to teach a concept you want to learn about to a student in the sixth grade. (You can use a plant or stuffed animal as your audience for this. Aloud is better than in your head.)
2.) Identify gaps in your explanation. Go back to the source material to better understand it.
3.) Organize and simplify.
4.) Teach a real person. (optional).
