Catalog: An electronic version of the "card catalog" that allows yo to search for items available for check-out. Books, DVD's, Magazines, etc. in physical format.
Check-out: When an item is scanned and the barcode number is added to patron record to keep track of who borrowed the item and when it is due.
Check-In: When you bring the item back, it is discharged/ barcode is removed from patron record. Check-out history is not kept.
Interlibrary Loan: Borrowing items from other libraries when we do not have it in our collections.
Loan Period: Length of time an item can be checked out (borrowed).
DVDs, Newspapers, Magazines, and Journals – 1 week
Books, Audiobooks, TV Series – 4 weeks
Reserve Materials – Mostly "In library use only" (may vary with material)
Recalled Materials – Due 10 days after a recall is placed.

Renewal: An extension of the original loan/borrowing period.
You should get a courtesy email reminding you that your item is due. You can click the link in the email to renew, renew the item through our online catalog, or contact us through email, phone, or chat.

Items that have been recalled or placed on hold by another patron cannot be renewed.
Recall: When the library requests the return of an item that is currently checked out.
Rented: Colloquial slang - meaning "borrow".
Borrowing items from our library is free, as long as you bring them back in good condition.
Rent is defined as: A fixed amount of money paid regularly to use a property, service, or good.
Stacks: Referring to where the shelves where books are stored.
Closed stacks - where you request a book and it is retrieved from the collection by staff.
Open stacks - where anyone can walk through and browse the collection in person.
