>>>> Ask: What do they GAIN by getting you to act on their information?
If the gain is significantly higher than the potential risk from using biased information, take that into consideration.
>>>> Ask: What do they RISK by giving you misleading information?
Institutions that have a reputation to risk are more apt to be careful about the authority and integrity of information they share and promote.

Applying what I learned to the library context:

"We tend to think of students as needing to know a, b, c, etc.,

but they only want five articles for an assignment.

What we need to do is:

give them easy access to what they think they need,
while letting them know that there is more to learn when they are ready,
and that the library has worthwhile resources and guidance they can use now and in the future."
