Nursing Assistant Resources: CNA Knowledge Test Notes

Career EXCELerate State Knowledge Test Information - CNA Knowledge Test Notes

Prior to State Knowledge Test (preferably during last day of class):

  • Schedule a respondus room to complete your Knowledge test in. If student chooses to take it at home they are at risk of having unstable internet connection, quiet testing environment or not having the required number of devices needed to complete the test.

Night before State Knowledge test:

  • Student must make sure that they have downloaded the videoconferencing app onto their cell phone.
    • TMU will send the student an email the night before their test with information on what videoconferencing platform is being used. Students must have the app downloaded as just clicking on the link and using it in an internet browser will not work.
  • Collect all login information (FVTC username and password and TMU account username and password).
  • Ensure they have a valid photo ID to bring with them to campus.

Day of State Knowledge Test Information:

  • Students must arrive to FVTC 30 minutes before their set start time.
    • Students must be logged into TMU website on a computer and join the Zoom link on their phone at least 15 minutes before test start time. If they are not signed in 15 minutes prior to test starting they will be marked as late and not be allowed to test.
  • Once on campus student should head to the respondus rooms and if a librarian is available ask one of them to unlock the respondus room they have reserved or call Security at 920-735-5691 from their cell phone or using the black phone located on the wall next to room E109A using number 5691. Students should make sure to have the email showing that they have reserved the room pulled up so staff can view it before unlocking the room.
  • Once student is in room they will need to login to the computer using their FVTC username and password. Once logged into the computer they will need to go to the TMU website (https://wi.tmutest.com/) and log in using their TMU username and password.
    • If they have issues logging into the computer they will need to call the FVTC helpdesk at 920-735-5644. If helpdesk does not answer or if issues continue I have logged into the computer using the “student” general login (username: student, password: student)
    • If they have issues with logging into TMU website they will need to reset their password. If issues continue they can try calling TMU at 1.888.401.0465.
  • Once logged into the TMU website student will need to click on “testing” and next to their knowledge test click on “prepare to test” that will be highlighted in orange.
    • Once they click on "prepare to test” it will load a new screen giving you information and asking for them to enter a code. The code will be given to the student by the test proctor over videoconferencing.
  • After the student has logged into TMU and has their test screen up they should go to their cell phone and click on the link that TMU emailed them to join the video conference meeting.
    • It is extremely important that the student has the app downloaded as just clicking on the link will not allow them to successfully join the meeting.
    • Student will need to make sure their volume and sound is working properly as the proctor will need to see and hear the student the entire test along with the student needing to see and hear the proctor.
    • If student does not have a cellphone they will need to work with Goodwill or Rawhide about obtaining another portable device to have the videoconference app on. The videoconference cannot be done on the same device you are testing on and must be portable to show the proctor the room prior to testing.
    • Students should make sure their cellphone is logged into the FVTC Secure wi-fi as this wi-fi is more stable. To login to this wi-fi they use their FVTC student ID number and password (same as they use to login to the computer).
  • Once the student is logged in to the meeting link they will wait for the proctor to begin the meeting/test. Once the proctor is on they will give the student directions and provide them with the code to enter in the test.
  • Proctor will begin the test and handle student from there. In the past I have sat outside the room until the student is done testing as issues have occurred that the student needs help navigating (wi-fi unreliable and unsure how to switch it, volume or mic on phone is not working, proctor not starting test but student is on time, proctor booting student from test and student unsure why, etc.)
    • If issues occur related to the proctor or something within the test itself you will need to call TMU for assistance.

Email I had been sending to students when they scheduled their Knowledge Test:

Hello,

This is a reminder that you are scheduled to take your CNA Knowledge Test at the FVTC Appleton campus tomorrow at TIME. Please make sure to arrive to campus no later than TIME to ensure you have time to get access to the room and log in. You must be logged in to TMU on the computer and the videoconferencing app on your phone at least 15-20 minutes before your test begins. If you login late you will be marked as a no show and not be able to complete your test.

Night before: Make sure that you have downloaded the videoconferencing app onto your cell phone. TMU will send you an email the night before your test with what app this is (so far has been Zoom but could be something different). Make sure you have your FVTC username and password, TMU username and password, and a photo ID to bring with you.

Day of Test:

  • Arrive to FVTC Appleton Campus by 10:00 AM and head to respondus room (E109A). You will want to park in front of Door 1.
  • If a librarian is available you may ask one of them to unlock the respondus room you have reserved. If they are not available, you will need to call Security at 920-735-5691 from your cell phone or using the black phone located on the wall next to room E109A using number 5691. Please make sure to have the email showing that you have reserved the room pulled up so they can view it before unlocking the room.
  • Once in room log into computer using your FVTC student ID number and the password you created. If you do not know this information, please make sure to call the help desk the day before to obtain this.
  • Once logged into the computer go to the TMU website (https://wi.tmutest.com/) and log in using your TMU username and password.
  • Once logged into the TMU website click on “testing” and next to your knowledge test click on “prepare to test” that will be highlighted in orange.
    • Once you click on this it will load a new screen giving you information and asking for you to enter a code. The code will be given to you by the test proctor in the videoconference meeting.
  • After you have logged into TMU and have your test screen up go to your cell phone and click on the link that TMU emailed you to join the video conference meeting.
    • It is extremely important that you have the app downloaded as just clicking on the link will not allow you to successfully join the meeting.
    • I highly recommend joining the FVTC Secure Wi-fi. The username and password for this is your FVTC student ID number and the password you set up (same as what you used to login to the computer). This Wi-fi is more stable and reliable in the respondus rooms.
  • Once you are logged in to the meeting link you will wait for the proctor to begin the meeting/test. Once the proctor is on they will give you directions and provide you with the code to enter in your test.
  • After you finish your test please make sure to log out of the computer and shut the door behind you, you are free to go! From what students have been telling me it takes roughly two business days to hear back on test results.
